Our girls - especially Elder Daughter - also had Bones's gift of being comfortable talking with people of all ages. Believe me when I tell you that it is a good thing. He is a remarkable kid, a pleasure to be around, not in small measure because he sees the world his own way, and he's articulate in telling others about it.

As for Helen Keller being featured on the Alabama quarter, be aware that the designs for most of the Statehood quarters are selected by committee - the voters per se have nothing to do with it. And all they care about is cramming as many Recognizable Symbols on the coin as possible. Helen Keller is a Recognizable Symbol, and people conveniently have forgotten (or overlooked) her far-left political views. And, this many years down the road, that should surprise no one.

I hear tell that when she was bad, her parents would rearrange the furniture. And when she was very bad, they'd leave the plunger in the toilet...

About political leanings ....

Walter Ruether is a very big name around the SE Detroit area, was a huge activist for the unions a long time ago.

We have buildings and freeways names after him.

The man was a huge communist, huge I mean, huge!

When I tell people that they just blink at me and say nothing.

I've seen Bones in action. Heh. Heh. Heh. BTW Bou, we are not a democracy. The Founders were terrified of democracy. A democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting for what to have for dinner. We are a constitutional republic. Unfortunately, our current crop of pols are shredding the Constitution (Both parties are guilty. A prime example is McCain-Feingold) and we will probably be a democracy in ten or twenty years. The fact that someone as intelligent as you calls this country a democracy shows that we are well on our way. Can't help myself with this political rant, but it is one of my pet peeves.
