Comments: Election Observations.

Then I expect you got get out and patch the hell hole that is down my street!! Even when the Batmobile was running I avoided driving in Rockford due to the fact that Fred Flinstone had better roads then here.

Hey - my house is technically still on the market! :-)

Morons don't know how to get a tax increase. If they'd just claim it won't cost any money and it's for the children, it would get about 75% support. That's how they do them down this way.

And Mecklenburg has a higher sales tax than surrounding counties -- so the last HUGE mall that went up appeared just over the county line. Many restaurants are appearing in similar locations.

The argument I HATE most when they are trying to wheedle more taxes out of me:

"It's not that much. It will only cost you XX amount per year or per $100."

My response...

"If it's not that much then you don't need it. If it's such a small amount of money, you won't miss it either."

ARG!

Great - it passed :/ So now not only do we have 8.25% sales tax, that also means that if I sell something to somebody who doesn't live in town (which is usually the case when I sell to an IL resident) that means I lose 2% on each of those sales because I'm not going to screw non-residents into paying the extra city/county sales taxes.
I don't have enough IL sales for it to be a heavy hit for me, but for bigger companies this can be a good chunk of lost cash, or lost business if clients start pulling out because you're padding the extra cost into your sales (sales taxes don't apply just to stuff you buy at Target - I'm thinking bigger picture here).
Not to mention the local road crews haven't been able to get the roads right in at least as long as I've been driving, and I'm sure much earlier. I don't think extra cash is going to fix that.
