Hube:
Not so fast. What if they are eons ahead of us and use something other than radio signals? I.e the radio to them could be like an arrow or man-made spear is to our military's current weapons.

Heck, maybe the radio spectrum is really noisy because of solar flares, and they never developed radio.

I think Global Warming will have taken care of all of us by then, Hube! ;-)

Perhaps all life has been wiped out because of their ignored global warming problem.(snark)

But really, there is a whole logical procession of things that makes it likely that they would be emitting radio signals if they were close to us, developmentally. Of course, if they were only a few hundred years behind us, they wouldn't be emitting. Think of how many times Kirk came upon planets just like that...

Plus we could really kick some serious tail if we showed up in our nice shiny spaceship in some pre-industrial society.

"Plus we could really kick some serious tail if we showed up in our nice shiny spaceship in some pre-industrial society."

You mean like Afghanistan?

Apparently LG isn't geeky enough to be up to speed on the Prime Directive - you know, how you aren't supposed to interfere with more primitive cultures, unless of course there are hot alien babes to nail.

AJ: 1) Then they'd have the tech to reach us, at least, and 2) even with that, it stands to reason they'd search "lesser" communication bands for the existence of life.

I like TJIC's hypothesis. But do red dwarfs emit that much flare interference? I would think our own type of star would emit more.

Hube, can NASA scan for podcasts yet? Maybe the inhabitants of...have they named it yet? Maybe they stole Al Gore's ideas and went straight from banging hollow logs to the internet.
