I thought the attempted murder charges were because they had beaten the kid unconscious. Had I heard that wrong? If it were merely a scuffle though, that charge would certainly be extreme.

I too had heard that the white student had been severely beaten and had to be hopitalized.

The kid was beaten unconsious and was hospitalized, but was released to attend class the next day.

It was not a scuffle and it was not in response to the nooses hanging from a tree. The kid was alone and clobbered from behind, then repeatedly kicked by the other 5 assailants.

Also, the murder charge was downgraded to assault, and the hrash sentence ( I think it was 15 years) that Jackson and Sharpton are protesting was already overturned on appeal before Jackson and Sharpton annouonced their intent to protest.

Yes, if he was back to school the same night it probably wasn't that bad and the charges are probably extreme. Of course the noose thing is reprehensible.

I assume we are talking about problems with two separate agencies. The school is responsible for under reacting in limited suspension and the police of over reacting in attempted murder charges.

Thanks for clearing up the circumstances a bit.
