In the military, art? Perhaps you can enlighten us w/some sourced statistics.

Well, that would increase your logistics tail, and increases your operational footprint - separate containerized housing units, etc. For the same reasons you would not house members of the opposite sex together, you might also not house gay service members together - while they would not become pregnant (and further increase you footprint) the issue of special relationships would be present, and affect discipline.

While proponents have pointed to other militaries as illustrative of how gays may serve openly, we should ask ourselves how well those militaries compare to our own? While some may believe it boils down to an equipping issue that makes us great, there is far more to it. The underpinnings of a great military is discipline, the values and ethos that allow professionalism to occur - anything that may jeopardize that should be scrutinized thoroughly, and devoid of social engineering projects that may make a society that largely does not itself serve in the military feel better about itself.

The current argument that there are desperately needed linguist who happen to be gay may be factual in terms of current numbers - however, if the military really wanted its members to be more culturally astute and proficient in a foreign language it could do so by making it a requirement - as far as I know it is not a prerequisite to be gay to learn a language.

So if I tell them I'm straight I share a barracks with 20 other guys but if I tell them I'm gay I get a private room? I foresee a huge uptick in the number of self-described gay troops.
