Comments: Scouting Out The Summer

two words: High Adventure. Philmont, or Northern Tier. I did Northern Tier and it was awesome. I also did the FL Sea base - but that might be a bit redundant for you guys. Northern Tier - Merit badges earned - 1 (canoeing) but the most amaizing time was had by all. There is something about being 20 miles from the closest building that is really cool. We saw 2 other groups int the 10 days we were in Canada, great experience.

where is this camp? My boys wanted to do a scout camp but I wanted to avoid the hell hole as well.

Web, I'll have to look into those. I might be able to convince them to do one more camp if it gets cool at night. It barely cools down to 80 here at night and they're sick of that kind of camping.

I talked to them about Seabase. As a troop we were going to do it last SUMMER, but my boys told me no way were they moving CLOSER to the equator during a FL summer. My 2nd son reminded me that he is white, he burns, and there isn't enough sunscreen in FL to prevent that in the Fl Keys in July... in the water, even while wearing a rashguard shirt. So we nixed it. I did talk to him about it for some time during a holiday. I personally think it would be a blast, but I like diving.

VW- Camp Flaming Arrow in Lake Wales. Take the pike N to Yeehaw Junction and head west on 60 for about 40 minutes. It's about 2.5 hours. I highly recommend it... They're planning some GREAT new upgrades too!
