Comments: Merely saying "I'm not gay" isn't enough

I'm straight and have nothing against gays and lesbians (I'm against same-sex "marriage," and I think it has occupied way too much of our national attention, but I'm for civil unions), but what bothers me about them is how they feel compelled to throw their sexuality in others' faces. I don't understand that.

The author of the CNN article loses me when he defends Kluwe. Even my ultra-liberal sister and her boyfriend admitted that Kluwe's "activism" was becoming a distraction to the team.

A German retired footballer has just come out as gay. He retired quite early at 31.

He hopes it will encourage other footballers to come out so that eventually it is not an issue.

The problem with this is that he waited until he retired to come out. He obviously believed that coming out sooner would not be a good idea. In fact waiting until retirement kind of makes it a non-story.
