There is no danger. There is no threat. It's not based on a shred of...well, anything at all. Except blind fear.

What's sad is that it's the exact same awful arguments made about gays, simply recycled from a few decades ago: "They're predatory." "They'll use restrooms to target people." And then gay people came out...and...woah, surprise!...they weren't monsters after all! They were your sons and daughters and friends and Anderson Cooper and Tim Cook and Neil Patrick Harris and Ellen.

Years ago I wished I could just hit the fast-forward button on the gay rights fight, knowing that pathetic battle over ignorance would be won. Wish I could hit it again, because we all know how this is going to end.

This is a personal issue to me, as my sister is dating a trans guy. And as it becomes a personal issue to more people, the hatred will LOSE, as it inevitably does.

And by the way -- I have a young daughter. And THIS is what makes no sense to me:

Except that I -- and many others -- are NOT claiming that (all) trans people are predatory. What they're saying is that predators *will* take advantage of such edicts.

Hell, even unisex *private* restrooms or locker rooms are insufficient for the "progressives" of today because they're somehow "bigoted." This is lunacy.

I noticed that you completely ignored the "right to privacy" point of the post. If you think your young daughter doesn't have a right NOT to see a grown man's penis in a public bathroom -- and yet she would have the right to the "privacy" of an abortion -- then you're one really mixed up individual ... and a perfect personification of today's Left (and society).

And let's make no mistake -- the Left says such instances where a predator would take advantage of such a edict are rare. I agree.

But trans people have been using the restroom of their choice for years now, and nary a person even knew. It's only when someone decides to make a "statement" that the RadLeft jumps on cue. Anyone who looks like the person in your link wouldn't get a second glance. And there'll be no "bathroom police" in place to check, either. Such folks, and those who've already had reassignment surgery no one could care about when it comes to which bathroom to use.

There is no danger. There is no threat.

Yeah, it's not like after acceptance of gays anyone would ever be forced to bake a gay wedding cake...

Or accept further pervursions like men in the women's restroom...

Oh wait.

See, it's not the freaks or anyone else people are "afraid" of, it's the tyranny using them to club away our freedoms.

Years ago I wished I could just hit the fast-forward button on the gay rights fight, knowing that pathetic battle over ignorance would be won. Wish I could hit it again, because we all know how this is going to end.

Yep, nothing like ensuring your cause will lose by trying to rush society into it. No way that will cause a backlash or anything.

Congrats. You and yours did more to elect Trump than had you been his campaign manager. Keep it up, and he'll be in the White House for sure in January.

This is a personal issue to me, as my sister is dating a trans guy. And as it becomes a personal issue to more people, the hatred will LOSE, as it inevitably does.

Be sure to tell your sister congratulations on being an evolutionary dead end.

See, God has mercy, Darwin does not. Natural selection favors the traditional. You can't "win" any more than a thrown rock can win against gravity. Sure you may still be on the upward side of the arc, but eventually it will all come down.

What about women in the men's room?

Hube:

As you say, it'd be rare. But if you'll humor me and allow me to ask an honest and respectful question: Can you take me through the social conservatives' general objection to this from start to finish? I want to understand it.

Let's start with a couple of questions:

1) Why would any sort of "edict" matter to someone whom we all agree is a predator?

2) What would be the purpose of an attack in the bathroom? From a getting-away-with-it standpoint, it's about the worst idea there is!

And Grim, that's a truly lovely sentiment to the commenter about his/her sister being an "evolutionary dead end." I'll share that with my (Christian, straight) friend and neighbor who can't have kids.

And what about women dating a trans woman who has had no surgery? Not an evolutionary dead end, but I can't imagine you're thrilled with that, either.

And while I do understand that rushing people into things can result in a poor result, it usually doesn't when the issue is trending your way with the American public (see civil rights, LGBT issues, women's rights, etc). The futility comes when you try to turn back the clock on issues the American people have already decided -- which over the last 40 years or so has been the GOP's specialty.
