Comments: Pets and Property

But I would have done the same if an alligator had gotten a hold of my Clint Eastwood DVD collection.

Yeah, leash was the first thing that popped into my head too when I heard this on the news. It always astounds me how many people just insist that their dog doesn't need a leash... Sheesh. I hope this guy learned his lesson - but probably not. *sigh*

What's wrong with pets being 'mere property?'

Obviously, as Brian points out, simply having passion for them doesn't make them more or less than property.

But I don't see why you have so little regard for property. Maybe I'm one of those who regard MINE as holy.

I'm fond of my property, but my spice rack and Aurora (youngest cat) have different rank, s'all.

I second the leash, and the "I'd have done it too" thoughts for my cats... they are family, not replaceable objects.
