Comments: The Tether.

I'm so glad you got that job and it's all worked out. I remember when you got it! We were excited then and still are now. Really!

Have I told you how proud I am of you? I am, you know....

Tether... I call 'em electronic leashes, but I get your point. When you get the "expense account"... give me a holla, I'll help you break it in. ;)

If you are proud of what you do and enjoy the work it's not a "tether", it's a "fringe benefit".
(Or a "French Benefit" if you saw that FedEx commercial.)

Yes, companies can and do abuse employee's loyalty and fear of losing their job when they have a company phone, computer, van, or whatever. It becomes an issue of personal strength to set limits on what you will allow the company to dictate and how each situation is handled.

If you have the capability and confidence to say; "No, I'm not available right now.", then you'll do fine and it's not a tether.

You're a good man and you deserve to be respected and treated well. With a pleasant demeanor, ensure they do that. :)

Oh, and post more shit - I like reading about how you build elevators. I dig the details, bro.

It's all about enjoying your job. Doesn't matter what the credentials are, as long as you enjoy what you are doing.
