I once actually saw two women quarrel over an item, just like in the movies, while Christmas shopping.

Until today, I would have written off this behavior as mindless consumerism. An appalling act can have multiple possible motives, and some may not be as bad as others.

Very interesting article! (I LOVE getting to the heart-level of things...) I don't 100% agree with blaming materialism being blaming "America" or American values; that's actually the perversion of American values, so we're completely right in condemning it. But I do agree 100% that we're all acting out *more of* what's deeply in our hearts, as she points out. It's nice to read a deeper analysis of the "heart factor" behind the mad rush - thanks for the read! :-)

Re: Our excesses are usually rooted in love that has been somehow hurt or hurtful, and our healings almost always come about in surprising ways, if we simply allow God in and work diligently to follow his lead.

I've known the last part for a while...but the intro is revealing and instructive.
