Comments: UPN: Star Trek lives...for now, at least...

Too bad they're killing it. This season was very good, IMO.

Being a Trek fan from way back, I have to say I was throughly unable to warm to Enterprise. I thought the entire "pre Kirk" thing was a very bad idea. And as for the Quantam leap fella as captain......also very bad.
Andromeda is well worth a look if your a dissapointed Trek fan.

What a shame. Unlike Patrick, I was a fan of the original "Star Trek" in high school (uh oh-that REALLY dated me didn't it), but never warmed up to any of the follow-up shows ( "Next Generation", "Deep Space Nine", "Voyager"). Being put on Friday night was what killed the original show for me , because as a teenager it was much more important to be involved in the typical Friday night activities than sitting home watching TV.

When "Enterprise" came out I gave it a look during the opening show. Being from Oklahoma, the setting in Broken Bow, OK hooked me from the gitgo. The show is well done and I have now become a "Trekkie" once again. I don't get to watch the show on Wednesdays, but it repeats on Sunday evening, and I watch it then (OK everybody, leave me alone, My "show" is on).

I hope they are smart enough not to kill it after this season, because it is the only thing I watch on UPN, and one of the few things I watch on TV at all these days except news.

My wife and I have been very disappointed with Enterprise. She was a big Quantum Leap fan largely because the show never took itself too seriously. Neither one of us has been able to figure out why the humorous possibilities have never been effectively mined on Enterprise.

One episode this season did hearken to the kind of goofy humor my wife loved about Quantum Leap, the one where the Andorians help capture a prototype of The Weapon™. But after a couple of good throwaway gags, the episode wound up like the series has been all along: Too @#$!!ing Serious.

So, we're pleasantly surprised the show's going to last another season, but I can't imagine it regaining the hold it has had on us the last few episodes -- once the Xindi storyline has played out, the series will go adrift again, and we'll be left counting the weeks until the Firefly movie comes out.
