I know that Americans are made of sterner stuff than the pundits. The hue and cry being raised by the media and the politicians of the 9/11 Committee is being revealed for what it is--partisan politics.

To this day 99% of complaints I hear about post-9/11 travel concern the petty inconvenience of someone on a vacation. The idea anyone would have countenanced a five dollar surcharge for marginally improved airport security or demanded that baggage handlers themselves be subject to security clearance would have raised hell.

Al Qaeda did not have to use complicated jui jitsu to use our weaknesses against us. Our greed and laziness worked for them. Yes, Americans are made of stern stuff. Canadians have yet to tested in this latest rise of the Shadow. I hope we come out the other side more like our southern neighbours than the people of Madrid.

I suggest you turn off the TV. Seriously. You don't learn anything useful and it plays hell with your blood pressure.

Dex, I think you already know that I believe Canadians don't appreciate their own strength!

RJ, unfortunately I have conspirazoids in my own family who actually read the first lines and skip the rest. I hope you are right, though. I'm just going on faith these days.

Anne, you're right, although to paraphrase another commenter in a subsequent post, it is important to know the opposition.

Flea alluded to Madrid, so I'll confess that I am holding my breath between now and the June 28 elections. I don't want an attack to happen to shake Canada out of its complacency although I sometimes wish they could be awakened by something.
