Comments: Elevator books are boring as hell.

If you don't take care of YOU, no one will.

At some point you have to just stand up and "it's all about me" and that's just fine.

**coffee, strong coffee - the best solution for boring manuals**

Hate to say it, but most companies are about making money, not helping the employees. You gotta do what is right for you. Though I did work for one company that really did stuff for the employees big time and still made money. Imagine that. ;-)

Have you ever read a Quality Book? I know they have Elevator books beat.

I will drag out a Quality book when ever I can't sleep.

They try to add levity to Elevator books? Wow. Try reading a jet engine repair manual. I promise you... there is no levity. Blech. th hazmat section in particular will make you snooze..

You gotta do what you gotta do. You gotta go where you are going to feel happy and make the kind of money that you feel makes it all worthwhile.

I have actually had people say to me; "I'd go get another job, but I work with such good people."
Which struck me as rather stupid.
There are good people all over this planet.

Work is work. Don't get too attached to it because one way or another, you will be replaced - eventually.

I suspect your co-workers are jealous.

Congrats, btw.

Oh, and for boring, I point you to Electronic Software Distribution manuals. Written by Italians, converted to English - poorly.

"you've read this site, so you can be sure that I'm a good judge of writing."

I notice that you didn't say "judge of good writing" :-)

Anyway, you have my sympathy on the whole elevator manual thing.

On the bright side, the opportunity for bad puns in your new career is ENDLESS. I expect you'll be making the most of them :-)

You have to do what makes you happy. C++ development manuals are deathly dull too, but somehow I think that your manuals MIGHT just have the edge!

I hope it goes really well for you, and when all is said and done I agree with Tammi!
